RASC News Agency: The Taliban’s Statistics and Information Department has purportedly denied an identity card to a Shia-Sunni couple based on their marriage. In a letter released by the Taliban Information and Statistics Department, Shiba Atai, daughter of Mohammad Dawood, a Sunni woman from Panjshir province, and Ali Jawad, son of Mohammad Sadiq, a Shia man from Parwan province, are reportedly facing impediments in obtaining an identity card due to their marriage between Sunni and Shia. The letter emphasizes that the Taliban administration lacks the authority to issue identity cards to such couples.
According to the same letter, the couple’s original identity cards are currently held by the Taliban group, and no department within the group is authorized to issue identity cards specifically for Shia and Sunni couples. The Taliban in Afghanistan does not recognize the Jafari religion, considering marriages between Shias and Sunnis to be against Sharia law. In the past, a Taliban official even denounced followers of the Jafari religion, alleging its foundation by Jews.
Reports suggest that the Taliban has exhibited violent behavior towards Shia individuals, especially after assuming control of the country. They have suppressed Shia communities, relegating them to the margins within the government. Moreover, the rights of minority groups, including Shias, have been largely ignored by the Taliban, leading to their exclusion from positions of power and influence within the group.
