RASC News Agency: The European Union has recently announced a contribution of 25 million euros aimed at enhancing educational facilities for the people of Afghanistan, as part of its ongoing humanitarian aid endeavors. Rafaela Iodice, the Chargé d’Affaires of the European Union, conveyed through a social media post on Thursday, December 6, that the EU has earmarked 25 million euros for the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to ameliorate educational facilities in Afghanistan.
Ms. Rafaela additionally stated that alongside this financial support, the infrastructure of 385 schools in Afghanistan will undergo improvements, with these funds specifically allocated to the infrastructural development of educational facilities and the provision of primary education. Simultaneously, the European Union publicized this aid following earlier reports that Rafaela Iodice, the Chargé d’Affaires of the European Union, had engaged in discussions with Habibullah Agha, the acting Minister of Education for the Taliban group, confirming that the EU will finance the reconstruction costs of 400 school buildings in Afghanistan.
Former President Hamid Karzai also previously asserted that Japan’s assistance, valued at 58 million dollars, should be directed towards the education sector for the schooling of girls and boys. This development arises at a time when, since the Taliban’s assumption of control over the country, the group has reportedly directed its focus towards the construction of religious schools, and numerous schools in various provinces lack proper maintenance.
It is noteworthy that under the Taliban’s rule in Afghanistan, girls above the sixth grade have been deprived of access to schools, and university gates have also been closed to them.
