Rise in Criminal Activities: Former Soldier Murdered in Laghman

RASC News Agency: Local sources from Laghman province report an alarming increase in criminal activities, with unidentified assailants recently torturing and killing a former soldier. On Monday, July 22, sources revealed that the victim, Mohebullah Mohabat, was murdered the previous day in the Alingar district of Laghman.

According to these sources, the former soldier of the previous government had no personal enemies, and signs of torture were evident on his body. Local Taliban officials in Laghman have not commented on the incident. This murder adds to the series of arrests and killings of former soldiers, which have become disturbingly frequent.

Notably, the Taliban also shot dead Haji Izzatullah, one of Abdul Rashid Dostum’s bodyguards, at his home in Sar-e Pol province just yesterday. Since their takeover of the country, the Taliban have declared a general amnesty but have used this as a pretext to arrest, torture, and kill hundreds of former soldiers.

In a previous incident, the Taliban arrested the brother of the former police chief of Takhar province without providing any reason, continuing their crackdown on former military personnel and their families. During nearly three years of their rule, the Taliban have severely violated the rights of various ethnic groups, with numerous reports of arbitrary arrests and extrajudicial killings.
