RASC News Agency: CBC News recently reported on December 2nd the arbitrary arrest of individuals by the Taliban group, shedding light on the detention of a former translator who had worked with the Canadian forces in Afghanistan. The arrest of this former translator was confirmed by his son, who revealed that he had been held captive by the Taliban for a week. The report stated that the translator, Bashir Ahmad Azizi, had served alongside the Canadian forces at Kandahar International Airport until 2007.

The son of the detained translator, Basir Ahmad Azizi, recounted the events leading up to his father’s arrest to CBC News. He explained that one morning, as they were heading to the gym, the Taliban unexpectedly stormed in and apprehended his father. Since then, Bashir Ahmad Azizi has been transferred to an undisclosed location, leaving his family in distress as they await any information regarding his well-being.

It is crucial to note that similar incidents have been reported in the past, with the Taliban group resorting to arbitrary arrests as a means of exerting control. In many cases, they have attempted to exploit money against their release. It is important to highlight that following the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan, a significant number of individuals who had collaborated with foreign forces were forced to flee the country and seek refuge elsewhere. Those who were unable to leave now live in constant fear, hiding from the watchful eyes of the Taliban.
