Foreign Affairs Magazine: Normalizing Relations with the Taliban is a Betrayal of Millions of Afghanistani Women and Girls

RASC News Agency: The Foreign Affairs magazine has asserted in a report that a humanitarian catastrophe is unfolding in Afghanistan, and the normalization of relations with the Taliban represents a grave betrayal of millions of Afghanistani women and girls. Foreign Affairs, an American magazine, reported today, Thursday, Mar 28, that the Taliban leader, with over 90 misogynistic decrees, has violated the rights of women and girls in this country.

The magazine further noted that despite Afghanistan being the only country in the world where women’s education is prohibited, some politicians in the country are pushing for the normalization of relations with the Taliban and the reopening of the United States Embassy in the country.

In its report, the magazine stated, “But taking steps to normalize relations before their leaders cease the systematic abuse and torture of women is a gross betrayal of the millions of women and girls whose lives America has helped change over the past two decades.” Previously, Karen Decker, a U.S. embassy official in Kabul, stated that Taliban restrictions on working women cost Afghanistan annually one billion dollars, a burden the country cannot afford.

It is worth noting that human rights organizations have expressed concerns about ongoing human rights violations, particularly regarding the rights of women and girls, since the Taliban’s assumption of power in the country, asserting that the Taliban leader has stripped women and girls of their most fundamental rights in this country and holds them captive.
