RASC News Agency: The Afghanistan electricity company, DABS, which operates under the control of the Taliban group, has recently announced a 50% reduction in the electricity supply in Kabul and 13 other provinces for a day. According to a newsletter published by this Taliban-controlled company, the imported electricity from a number of provinces in the country will decrease by nearly 50% from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 23, due to essential repair and construction of electricity facilities in Uzbekistan.
The newsletter states that the provinces of Kabul, Parwan, Kapisa, Panjshir, Balkh, Samangan, Baghlan, Nangarhar, Laghman, Ghazni, Maidan Wardak, Logar, Paktia, and Khost are expected to face a shortage of electricity. It is noteworthy that Afghanistan relies primarily on neighboring countries, particularly Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, for its essential electricity, and certain provinces in the country periodically experience power supply issues due to various reasons.
Furthermore, with the onset of winter, the issues of power outages escalate annually in different provinces of the country, leading to multiple challenges for Afghanistani citizens. As a result of the conflicts over several decades between the forces of the Taliban group and those of the previous government of the country, electrical installations have suffered severe damages.
According to some observers, despite reporting substantial incomes in different sectors of the country, the Taliban group has not placed much emphasis on the reconstruction and self-sufficiency of the country’s electricity. Afghanistan continues to rely on international humanitarian aid.
