RASC News Agency: The George W. Bush Institute has issued a call to the global community, particularly the United States, urging them to classify the Taliban group as a “terrorist organization” due to its perpetuation of ties with other “terrorist groups” and ongoing human rights abuses in Afghanistan.
According to a report from Delhi, referencing a recent publication by the George W. Bush Institute titled “The Role of Foreign Actors in Sustaining Taliban Financial Corruption in Afghanistan,” designating the Taliban group as a terrorist organization would restrict their access to certain financial resources.
As outlined in this report, the Taliban regime has maintained connections with various terrorist groups, including Al-Qaeda and the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The institute’s report highlights that the Taliban group’s violations of Afghanistani citizens’ rights, particularly those of women and children, as well as their engagement in “criminal and corrupt activities” to strengthen their regime, persist without interruption.
Furthermore, the George W. Bush Institute emphasized that labeling the Taliban regime as a “terrorist organization” would hinder efforts to legitimize the group globally and impede the flow of assistance to them. The report underscores that by designating the Taliban group as a terrorist organization, countries are obliged to refrain from issuing visas to individuals affiliated with this group.
The institute pointed out that despite the human rights abuses in Afghanistan over the past two years, the global community has yet to hold the Taliban group accountable for its “crimes.”
