RASC News Agency: Local officials in Bamiyan have announced the construction and operation of 23 healthcare shelters in the province. These healthcare shelters were inaugurated on Tuesday, November 21. Representatives from local authorities in Bamiyan and coordinating institutions attended the opening ceremony. According to reports, the shelters have been built in the central area and five districts of the province, including Shibar, Yakaolang Number 1, Yakaolang Number 2, Panjab, and the center of Bamiyan. The construction of these healthcare shelters in Bamiyan was undertaken by the “MOVE” organization, with financial support from the United Nations Population Fund. They are now fully operational.
During the inauguration, Governor Abdullah Sarhadi expressed his satisfaction and called on active healthcare organizations to collaborate in providing medical services to remote villages in the province. The chairman of “MOVE” in Bamiyan, Mahmmood Sajjadi, explained that out of the 23 healthcare shelters, 11 have been built to standard with proper equipment, while the remaining 12 shelters have been renovated and expanded. Mr. Sajjadi mentioned that these healthcare shelters offer vital services to around 35,000 mothers, including prenatal care, childbirth assistance, nutrition advice, family planning, and pre- and postnatal care.
This initiative in Bamiyan reflects a larger effort to improve healthcare facilities across the country. It is important to note that many Afghanistani citizens in remote areas currently lack basic healthcare services, leading to high rates of maternal and child mortality. Since the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan, all sectors, including healthcare, have suffered severe damage. Restoring and expanding healthcare services is crucial to address the pressing needs of the population.
