RASC News Agency: Former Afghanistan President Hamed Karzai has once again called for the reopening of girls’ schools in Afghanistan. On November 20th, coinciding with International Children’s Day, Karzai took to social media to urge the Taliban to lift the ban on girls’ education and allow them to attend school. He emphasized that providing education to all children, regardless of gender, is crucial to shaping a bright and prosperous future for Afghanistan.
Despite the global celebration of International Children’s Day, many Afghanistani children, especially those under Taliban control, continue to face numerous challenges and obstacles in various sectors.
Afghanistan remains the only country in the world where girls above the sixth grade are prohibited from attending school. The Taliban has imposed severe limitations and restrictions on girls’ education and training, sparking domestic and international outcry. Karzai has consistently advocated for the opening of schools for girls above the sixth grade, addressing the issue in various statements and meetings with world officials.
However, despite more than two years passing since the Taliban imposed these restrictions, no positive action has been taken. In response to the limited access to education, some Afghanistani citizens have resorted to discreetly transforming their homes into secret schools to ensure that girls can continue their education. Religious schools have become the primary focus of the Taliban group since they gained control over the country, resulting in the conversion of numerous schools into religious institutions nationwide.
