RASC News Agency: As winter approaches and concerns about the situation of earthquake victims in Herat grow, the Taliban’s Information and Culture Department in the province has recently announced plans to rebuild 730 residential houses for the affected families in Herat. According to a report by the Bakhtar News Agency, citing the Taliban’s Information and Culture Department in Herat Province, on Sunday, November 19th, these houses will be constructed at a cost of 400 million kabuli rupees in three villages of Rabat-e Sangi district.
Mawlawi Ahmadullah Muteqi, the head of the Taliban’s Information and Culture Department in Herat and spokesperson for the Taliban’s Commission for Earthquake Victims in Herat, stated that the construction of the houses for the earthquake-affected families is expected to be completed within 45 days. It is important to note that a severe earthquake on October 7th rocked parts of Herat Province, resulting in the loss of over 2,500 lives, injuries to thousands, and the destruction or serious damage of more than 30,000 residential units.
Following this devastating earthquake and the resulting loss of life and property, the Taliban promised to build 2,146 residential units for the 20 affected villages in the Zindajan district of Herat, which suffered the most from the earthquake. Furthermore, during a visit to Herat, the Deputy Economic Minister of the Taliban’s Cabinet also pledged to rebuild “solid and well-built” houses for the earthquake victims. Meanwhile, despite claims of embezzlement of international aid being provided to the earthquake victims by the Taliban, it remains unclear to what extent the promises made by the group to construct homes for the affected population in Herat will materialize.
