RASC News Agency: Amidst the harrowing circumstances faced by the afflicted victims of the Herat earthquakes, the World Food Program (WFP) has recently issued a compelling plea for a staggering sum of 19 million dollars. This urgent appeal aims to render much-needed assistance to the staggering 100,000 individuals who have been impacted by the catastrophic events in the region. On the 18th of October, the organization released a statement, emphasizing the dire and pressing need for aid to be extended to the tens of thousands of people direly affected in Herat. Regrettably, the WFP is currently confronted with a severe shortage of funds, despite its ongoing efforts to provide support to the victims.

To address this devastating crisis, the WFP has meticulously devised a comprehensive plan that entails offering vital sustenance and indispensable cash aid to the earthquake victims in Herat for a duration spanning from three to seven months. Moreover, it is paramount to underscore that the organization has unequivocally stressed the imperative need for an additional colossal sum of 400 million dollars, enabling the expeditious distribution of food aid to the vulnerable and destitute individuals residing in the region prior to the arrival of the impending winter, which poses significant challenges to transportation routes.

Notwithstanding the humanitarian aid that has been extended by a myriad of international and domestic institutions to the beleaguered residents of Herat, the province continues to endure a state of dire straits in the aftermath of the earthquakes. Consequently, it is of vital importance for international institutions to extend substantial assistance during this arduous period to assuage the plight of the beleaguered residents in Herat.

Moreover, UNICEF has previously disclosed that a notable proportion of the earthquake victims in Herat comprise children and women, thereby exacerbating the already dire situation. Egregiously, it has been brought to light that the gender discrimination perpetuated by the Taliban further taints the landscape of these natural disasters. The Taliban’s oppressive policies, such as the restriction imposed on women leaving their homes, render them particularly susceptible to the perils unleashed by such cataclysmic events.

Additionally, reports have surfaced, exposing the involvement of Taliban members in the illicit sale of humanitarian aid within local markets. Astonishingly, these aid supplies have been graciously donated by international organizations and foreign countries, specifically intended for the betterment and well-being of the earthquake victims. This sinister revelation underscores the urgent need for heightened vigilance and stringent oversight to curtail such illicit activities and ensure that the assistance reaches those desperately in need.
