According to reports, the recent earthquake, accompanied by four subsequent aftershocks, claimed the lives of at least three individuals and left over 100 others injured. It is crucial to note that Herat has witnessed the deadliest tremors in the region over the course of the past 10 days, leading to significant losses for the local population. The reported death toll currently stands at 2,445, with an additional 2,440 individuals sustaining varying degrees of injuries.
On a parallel note, UNICEF has released a disquieting report, unveiling the disproportionate impact of the recent earthquakes on women and children, who accounted for over 90 percent of the victims. In response, the agency has acted with promptness, establishing five mobile clinics along with dedicated teams operating overnight, aiming to provide psychological and social support to those affected, with a particular emphasis on women.
