RASC News Agency:Following the devastating earthquakes that ravaged Herat, resulting in the widespread destruction of numerous areas within the province and inflicting significant losses upon the local population, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Aid (OCHA) has officially declared that thousands of families in western Afghanistan are currently in dire need of food assistance.
On Monday, October 16, the Afghanistan branch of OCHA took to the X social network to report the recent perilous seismic activity experienced in western Afghanistan, particularly in Herat province. The announcement highlights that a minimum of 43,335 individuals in Herat are currently grappling with food insecurity and have fallen victim to the earthquakes.
Additionally, the program emphasized on X: “On World Food Day, we would like to remind the international community that in Afghanistan, 15 million people are uncertain about the source of their next meal, which accounts for one-third of the population.”
Furthermore, the program expressed that while poverty and destitution were already prevalent in Afghanistan, the recent earthquakes in Herat have exacerbated these issues, intensifying the suffering and hardship experienced by the local population.
Moreover, residents of Herat have expressed deep concerns about the impending winter season, anticipating a worsened situation and appealing for increased assistance from both domestic and foreign institutions. It is imperative to note that the earthquake in western Afghanistan has severely impacted the affected individuals, leaving many in dire economic circumstances and without a place to call home.
It is worth highlighting that despite the numerous aid efforts directed towards the people of Herat, uncertainty persists regarding the destination of these donations. Earlier, an American senator declared that aid to Afghanistan would no longer be permitted under the control of the Taliban group.
