RASC News Agency: The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, in conjunction with several other international migration organizations, has made a plea to Pakistan, urging them to reconsider their decision to deport Afghanistani refugees.
In a collective statement released on Saturday, October 7th, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees stressed the significance of Pakistan’s ongoing support for Afghanistani refugees who may encounter potential threats.
The joint statement, issued by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the International Organization for Migration, called upon all nations to halt the forced deportation of Afghanistani refugees.
These organizations highlighted the numerous challenges Afghanistan faces, particularly concerning human rights issues, especially those pertaining to women and girls. They cautioned that this decision would have severe consequences for individuals compelled to flee their homeland.
The statement further emphasized that returning migrants are exposed to significant security risks. Pakistan was urged to facilitate the voluntary return of Afghanistani refugees in a dignified manner, without any coercion.
The United Nations has pledged to work alongside Pakistan in establishing a comprehensive and sustainable registration mechanism for Afghanistani nationals. It stressed that the forced repatriation of these migrants could result in egregious human rights violations.
It is noteworthy that the Pakistani government’s decision to deport Afghanistani refugees has garnered widespread condemnation from international institutions. Various human rights organizations and international bodies have called for the reversal of this decision.
Meanwhile, Pakistani officials have announced that they will no longer provide support to Afghanistani refugees suspected of involvement in recent terrorist attacks within Pakistan.
