RASC News Agency: “Taliban restrictions on hairdressers in Mazar e-Sharif, Afghanistan, have been increased in the last days which caused lots of tension to these hairdressers.

These restrictions include (“not shaving customers’ beards”), “Islamic correction of people’s hair,” “distributing price lists,” and “strict monitoring of their activities.”

According to the officials of these salons, these restrictions were put in place by Amr Bil Marouf’s Taliban Department in Balkh Province and Mazar-e’ Sharif city.

They said that the workers of the Department of Amr Bil Maruf came to their shops and workplaces and read them a written letter and posted it in their shops.

According to this letter, shaving customers’ beards and trimming people’s hair in a non-Islamic style, as well as recklessness against its rulings; it is considered an illegal act and is punishable.

At the same time, the municipality of Mazar-e-Sharif has also announced by distributing a price list for hair salons that anyone who acts contrary to it will face a serious reaction from the Taliban.

According to them; in the price list of Mazar-e-Sharif municipality, the work money of men’s barbershops has been reduced by 50% and they added that with this restriction, they cannot afford the rent of the shop and their living expenses.

Taliban group’s work is against business activities, the salons’ owners said, adding that the  Taliban group distanced itself from the people through its actions.

Some of them, who spoke to RASC News Agency, withholding their names, said that this work of the Taliban group is causing economic and financial problems for families.

Men’s hair salons are a part of work for many people who want to earn a living for themselves and their families and children.
