RASC News Agency: On the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, a meeting under the name of “Fighting Gender Apartheid” was held with the participation of a number of representatives of the world’s countries and human rights activists.
This meeting was held yesterday, September 22, in order to examine the situation of women and girls in Afghanistan, with the presence of Richard Bennett, the special rapporteur of the United Nations for human rights.
The meeting about Afghanistani women and girls started with the speech of Nasir Ahmed Faiq, head of Afghanistan’s delegation to the United Nations, about the situation in Afghanistan, especially the systematic removal of women and girls from society and the violation of their fundamental and human rights.
In this meeting, he expressed concern about the situation of Afghanistani women and said that the Taliban group’s restrictions against women and girls lead to extensive negative effects on the entire Afghanistan society.
Nasir Ahmad Faiq added, the Taliban group has taken “hostage” women in Afghanistan for two years, and this has led to the formation of a social, humanitarian, economic and political crisis in Afghanistan.
He mentioned women and girls as half of the body of the society, adding that they have suffered the most damage under the rule of the Taliban, this situation is nothing less than gender apartheid, and this is a threat to the common valuesof the international community.
The head of the Afghanistan delegation has stated that more reporting mechanisms are needed to hold the Taliban accountable for gross violations of human rights and crimes against humanity.
Meanwhile, Richard Bennett added that in his reports to the Human Rights Council, he also mentioned the sexual harassment of women and girls.
Meanwhile, Afghanistani women’s rights activists considered the current situation in Afghanistan to be gender apartheid and demanded its recognition by the international community.
