RASC News Agency: Satya Narayan Pradhan, the director of India’s Narcotics Control Bureau, highlighted in his recent remarks that the turmoil in Afghanistan and Myanmar has spurred the growth of the drug trade in the Indian Ocean region. The Indian financial newspaper, The Times of India, reported that Pradhan addressed this issue on Wednesday, February 28th.
He elaborated, “The changes in regimes in Myanmar and Afghanistan since 2021 have resulted in a surge in drug trafficking across the Indian Ocean region.” The director of India’s Narcotics Control Bureau further noted that the agency has recently confiscated 3,300 kilograms of drugs in the region. These statements coincide with India’s repeated expressions of concern regarding the escalation of drug trafficking from Taliban-controlled Afghanistan into the country.
New Delhi had raised its latest concerns on this matter during the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. It is worth noting that, in addition to India, Tajikistan has also voiced concerns repeatedly about the persistent cultivation and trafficking of drugs from Taliban-controlled Afghanistan.
