RASC News Agency: The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Aid (OCHA) has announced that Afghanistan has the highest maternal and infant mortality rate in the world.

This organization added that after the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, this number has increased due to various factors.

The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Aid of the United Nations (OCHA) published a statement yesterday, September 19, saying that 699 deaths occur in Afghanistan for every 100,000 births, which shows the highest mortality rate of mothers, babies and children in the world.

In a statement of this organization, it is stated that four decades of conflict, lack of structural investment in the health system and less support from donors for long-term development assistance from August 2021, have affected the access and quality of maternity and child health care services.

At the same time, (OCHA) has warned of the destruction of twenty years’ achievements in the health sector in Afghanistan.

This is despite the fact that earlier, the Office of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) said in a report that Afghanistan is among the 10 countries where the death rate of mothers and babies is high.

This organization has reported the death of more than 4.5 million women and babies during pregnancy, childbirth or in the first weeks after birth, mainly due to preventable and treatable factors in Afghanistan.

It should be remembered that earlier the World Health Organization announced that the health system in Afghanistan is facing many challenges.
