RASC News Agency: The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) announced in a new report that Afghanistan is the fastest producer of methamphetamine-type drugs in the world.

Based on this report, which was published on Sunday, September 10, methamphetamine trafficking in Afghanistan and neighboring countries is increasing nearly 12 times.

The report states that drug discovery has increased from 2.5 tons in 2017 to 29.7 tons in 2021 in five years.

According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, after the Taliban regained control of the country and banned the cultivation and trafficking of drugs in April 2022, heroin trafficking still continues at a lower rate.

Ghada Waly, the executive director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, has emphasized that the purpose of this report is to provide vital information to the international community to deal with the growing threat of drugs.

She has also said that the seizure of suspected methamphetamine originating from Afghanistan in distant places; Such as: European Union, Middle and Near East, Southeast Asia and East Africa have been reported.

This is despite the fact that Hebatullah Akhundzadeh, the leader of the Taliban group, issued a decree early this year, prohibiting the cultivation of poppy and strictly prohibiting the use and transfer, buying and selling, import and export, and factories producing any narcotic substances.

However, Taliban officials are accused of cultivating and smuggling drugs in the country.
