RASC News Agency: Human Rights Watch has said in a report that gender and human rights crimes by the Taliban group in Afghanistan should be investigated by the International Criminal Court in The Hague as “an example of a crime against humanity.”
The new report of the Human Rights Watch on what is known as “Crimes of gender groups in Afghanistan” was published on Friday, September 8.
Liz Evenson, head of the global justice department at Human Rights Watch, said: “The cruel and methodical denial of the basic rights of women and girls by the Taliban to remove them from the public scene has attracted global attention. The coordinated support of the relevant governments is necessary to bring the responsible leaders of the Taliban to justice.”
Human Rights Watch said that Taliban officials must put an end to all forms of oppression and discrimination that deprive women and girls of their basic rights.
Evenson added: “The International Criminal Court’s investigations in Afghanistan could provide a way to account for crimes against humanity, persecution and gender-based persecution. “Governments must ensure that the court has the necessary resources and cooperation, so that prosecutors can investigate this crime and other serious human rights violations.”
This report is published while the International Criminal Court in October 2022 allowed its prosecutor to resume his investigation on the situation in Afghanistan.
