RASC: A group of Afghanistani immigrants in Pakistan accused the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) of ignoring the problems of immigrants in this country and being negligent in solving them.
According to this group, this negligence has led to many suicides among asylum seekers.
This group of immigrants with the slogan “Save us”/on Monday, July 24, by publishing a statement, sent their suggestions to solve the problems of Afghanistani immigrants in Pakistan to the United Nations Higher Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
The organizers of this proposal asked the United Nations to explain some cases of suicide of asylum seekers.
In the past month, reports about the suicide of two immigrants were published in the media.
At the beginning of July, a young immigrant from Badakhshan, Afghanistan, committed suicide by throwing himself down from the sixth floor of a building and ending his life.
In another case, on July 20, a group defending the rights of asylum seekers in Pakistan announced that a 24-year-old Afghanistani youth committed suicide in Islamabad in protest of the unfortunate immigration situation in this country.
The “Save Us” group wrote in its statement that the United Nations Refugee Agency in Islamabad should contact the responsible institutions of the host countries, especially Pakistan; to find a solution for the growing problems of immigrants.
This group also asked the United Nations Refugee Agency to “return the files of people at risk to the countries accepting immigrants and try to resettle them.”
The statement of this group of immigrant’s states, “We seriously request the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to provide valid documents such as certificates and immigration cards to ease the migration and relieve the psychological worries of immigrants.”
At least in the last two years, human rights organizations have reported increasing pressure on Afghanistani immigrants in Pakistan.
