RASC: Ahmad Wahidi, the Minister of Interior of Iran, says that considering the presence of more than five million Afghanistani immigrants in this country, Afghanistani immigrants do not pose a security challenge for this country.
During an interview with reporters, Ahmad Wahidi said about the number of Afghanistani immigrants in Iran and how to monitor and organize them, “We cannot provide accurate statistics, but probably the number of Afghanistani immigrants in Iran is more than five million.”
He continued: “The security apparatuses have their own unique controls and supervision, but the organization of immigrants needs more supervision and we hope that the National Migration Organization that we have proposed will be approved in the parliament because we need a stronger structure.”
Regarding whether this number of Afghanistani immigrants may cause security challenges, Iran’s Interior Minister said: “No, every community has its own security problems, and we have not received a specific report regarding this matter, and if there are such cases, it will be dealt with.”
This is despite the fact that previously, on July 10, the newspaper Jamhuri-e-Islami, by publishing an interview of an Iranian journalist with one of the news agencies, stated that Afghanistani immigrants are causing extensive security challenges for Iran.
It should be noted that Iran is one of the countries where most of the citizens travel to for various purposes.
