RASC News Agency: A recent survey conducted by an American university reveals that nearly 85% of Afghanistani citizens have been subjected to threats of violence and death, predominantly at the hands of Taliban members, following the group’s takeover of Afghanistan. The survey also indicates that 90% of the population is enduring severe hunger and food insecurity. The study, led by Lawrence Technological University in the United States, found that over three years into Taliban rule, 90% of Afghanistan’s population faces acute food shortages and extreme poverty.
Additionally, the findings highlight that more than 84% of Afghanistani citizens lack access to essential healthcare services under Taliban governance, further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis. The survey revealed that 85% of respondents reported being “threatened with violence,” with the majority of these threats stemming from Taliban members, driven by the group’s discriminatory practices and ethnocentric policies. According to the survey report, approximately 800 Afghanistani participants, 94% of whom were men, provided their views on critical issues, including humanitarian aid, restrictions on freedom of expression, the erosion of women’s rights, widespread malnutrition, and escalating unemployment. The respondents were aged between 18 and 29 years.
The organizers of the survey commented: “The grim situation in Afghanistan has deteriorated to such an extent that almost every individual, irrespective of their background, has been adversely affected.” The study further disclosed that 72% of participants reported losing one or more family members to violence or displacement since the Taliban’s return to power. Alarmingly, the survey noted that 9 out of 10 Afghanistani citizens have experienced a significant decline in their quality of life due to intense social and psychological pressures.
Since reclaiming control of Afghanistan, the Taliban has systematically imposed stringent restrictions on the population. The regime’s failure to address the widespread poverty and unemployment has led to a worsening economic crisis, leaving millions in despair.
