RASC: Following the limitation of media activities in Afghanistan under the control of the Taliban group, the Free Journalists Union of Afghanistan says that the Taliban group in Ghazni province has arrested Latif Yaqoubi, a local reporter of “Voice of America”.

According to this union, the Taliban group arrested Mr. Yaqoubi from a wedding party on Monday night, July 10.

The arrest of this journalist has caused the concern of the Free Journalist Association of Afghanistan.

A newsletter of this union quoted Hamidullah Nisar, head of information and culture of the Taliban group in Ghazni, as saying: “The issue of Mr. Yaqoubi’s arrest is not related to media work and he will be released as soon as possible.”

The Free Journalists Union of Afghanistan added that if Latif Yaqoubi’s arrest has nothing to do with media activities, he should be released as soon as possible.

This institution has also requested the Taliban group to deal with cases related to media work through the channel of the commission for investigating complaints and dealing with media violations.

The Taliban group has not officially commented on the arrest of this journalist.

It should be mentioned that the Taliban group has arrested journalists many times in the past two years, and Mortaza Behbodhi, an Afghanistani-French journalist, has been in the custody of this group for several months.
