RASC News Agency: Reports indicate that, once again, the United Nations Credentials Committee has denied the Taliban group Afghanistan’s seat in the organization. The decision regarding Afghanistan’s permanent representative seat in the United Nations General Assembly was deferred on Monday, December 18th. Nasir Ahmad Faiq, Afghanistan’s permanent representative in the organization, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Taliban group each sent separate letters concerning Afghanistan’s representation to the United Nations Credentials Committee. Nevertheless, the final decision of the United Nations General Assembly stated that the assessment of Myanmar and Afghanistan’s credentials had been postponed based on the proposal of the assembly’s chairman.
Despite the Taliban group’s control over Afghanistan on two occasions, the United Nations General Assembly has once again delayed the decision to grant them the seat of Afghanistan’s permanent representative. Nasir Ahmad Faiq has overseen and managed the affairs of Afghanistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations during this period, representing the country in various meetings. The postponement of the decision indicates that the current representatives of Afghanistan and Myanmar can continue their activities and remain in their positions within the United Nations.
It is imperative to underscore that, even though more than two years have passed since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, the group still lacks international recognition and legitimacy. Consequently, Afghanistan has been deprived of participating in many world meetings. Despite this, the United Nations has chosen to postpone the decision on Afghanistan’s representation, allowing the current representatives to continue their work.
