RASC: According to the report of the Office of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), from August 2021 to May 2023, 1,950 civilians have died as a result of violence in the country.
Based on the report of this organization, which was published today, (Tuesday, June 27) 700 people were killed due to suicide attacks and the explosion of homemade mines in public places such as mosques, educational centers and cities.
The UNAMA report states that the number of injured in these attacks reaches 2,679 people, which shows the security challenges in the last two years.
The report also mentions that in addition to the reduction of fighting in Afghanistan, the security challenges, especially from the ISIS group in Afghanistan under the control of the Taliban group, remain as before.
According to UNAMA, nearly 1,700 people have been killed or injured in ISIS attacks during this period.
The report states: “UNAMA’s figures not only show continued civilian harm from such attacks, but also an increase in deadly suicide attacks since August 15, 2021, with a smaller number causing more civilian casualties.”
While the Taliban group had claimed that ISIS has been suppressed in Afghanistan, the UNAMA report rejected this claim and stated that this group is still a serious threat to Afghanistan.
In response to the United Nations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Taliban stated that Afghanistan’s security has improved more than ever before.
In the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of this group, it is said: “Taliban group considers it necessary to ensure the safety of citizens and take timely action to destroy safe havens of terrorists.”
There is no mention of the casualties of Taliban fighters in this report.
It should be noted that, with the re-establishment of the Taliban in the country, the Khorasan branch of ISIS has caused many casualties to the fighters and local officials of this group during several deadly suicide attacks and the use of intermediaries.
In the latest case, after ISIS attacked the deputy governor of the Taliban for Badakhshan and then during his Fatiha recitation ceremony in the city of Faizabad, at least 23 people were killed, including some of the group’s key commanders and 57 others were injured.
