Hina Rabbani: Despite the Economic Challenges, Pakistan has Allowed Afghanistani Refugees

RASC: In her latest statement, the deputy foreign minister of Pakistan stated that her country, having economic challenges, has kept its gates open to Afghanistani and other asylum seekers.

Hina Rabbani has added that the preferred solution chosen by Pakistan is the voluntary return of Afghanistani refugees to their country in complete safety and dignity.

The deputy foreign minister of Pakistan made these statements on Tuesday, June 20, in a program to celebrate Refugees Day, which was organized by the UN Refugee Agency and the government of Pakistan.

According to the report of Dan newspaper, Hina Rabbani asked the international community to play its role as part of sharing the responsibilities regarding the refugees in Pakistan.

She also expressed concern about the increase in the number of immigrants around the world.

In more than twenty months of Taliban rule over Afghanistan, a significant number of Afghanistani citizens have migrated to Pakistan.

It should be mentioned that recently, the Pakistani police has arrested hundreds of Afghanistani immigrants, including children and women, because they do not have legal residency documents.

Amnesty International on Tuesday called on the government of Pakistan to immediately stop the arbitrary detention of Afghanistani migrants.

It should be noted that Pakistan is not the only country that witnessed a large wave of Afghanistani refugees after the Taliban took over. Iran has also hosted a large part of Afghanistani refugees for several years.
