RASC News Agency: The Afghanistan Freedom Front has claimed responsibility for a new guerrilla-style assault against Taliban forces in Kabul, reporting that two Taliban fighters were killed and another wounded. In a statement issued on Thursday, Aug 28, the group announced that its fighters carried out an evening raid on a Taliban checkpoint in the seventh district of Kabul city. According to the statement, the attack was conducted as part of its campaign of urban resistance aimed at undermining the Taliban’s military presence in the capital. The Freedom Front further stressed that this marked its third armed operation against Taliban forces within a single week, both in Kabul and in other provinces. Earlier this week, the group had also claimed responsibility for striking a Taliban outpost in Taloqan, the provincial capital of Takhar, which allegedly resulted in four Taliban fighters being killed or injured.
While these operations highlight the persistence of armed resistance against the Taliban, they also deepen civilian anxieties. Local residents told RASC News that after each such attack, the Taliban often retaliate not by pursuing the perpetrators, but by arbitrarily detaining and harassing ordinary citizens in surrounding areas. This pattern, sources warn, has generated an atmosphere of collective punishment, fear, and psychological pressure on communities who are already enduring economic collapse and political repression under Taliban rule. Analysts note that the Taliban’s inability to provide security for their own forces combined with their heavy-handed reprisals against civilians further erodes their already fragile legitimacy. The escalating activities of resistance groups like the Afghanistan Freedom Front reveal the growing cracks in the Taliban’s claims of having consolidated control across the country.
