RASC: In a press conference, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said:
“We will not recognize the Taliban until it fulfills its obligations. As the countries of the world have said, these obligations include the formation of a comprehensive government.
According to Lavrov, the conditions for the official recognition of the Taliban are the formation of an inclusive government with the presence of ethnic groups and political forces, as well as the observance of human rights.
The Russian Foreign Minister says that the Taliban claim that all ethnic groups in Afghanistan are present in the current government, but he stated that it is not only the presence of ethnic groups in the government, but also political figures and people who have an effective role in improving the situation, should contribute.
However, he emphasizes that observing human rights, especially women’s rights, is one of the conditions for official recognition.
Lavrov also supported the meeting in Qatar, which is going to be hosted by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, with the special representatives of countries for Afghanistan, and asked the western countries to take a greater part in helping Afghanistan.
Sergey Lavrov emphasizes the formation of a government with the presence of other political groups, while the Taliban has always refused to give a share to political figures and members of the previous government.
This group has repeatedly repeated that no one but the Taliban is allowed in the government.
Sergey Lavrov traveled to New York, USA, to attend the United Nations Security Council meeting, and he is the rotating chairman of this council for the month of April.
