RASC News Agency: U.S. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz issued a stark warning on Tuesday, April 22, asserting that international terrorist organizations including ISIS, al-Qaeda, and al-Shabaab are actively developing plans to strike targets within the United States. In an interview with Just the News, Waltz disclosed that these groups are currently engaged in designing “strategic plots and operational blueprints” with the intention of conducting high-impact attacks on American territory.
Waltz emphasized that the Trump administration has thus far eliminated 74 senior figures within these extremist networks. However, he refrained from providing specific details about the identities of the individuals targeted or the locations of the operations. According to The Washington Post, Afghanistan remains a focal point in Waltz’s national security concerns. He has consistently warned that the country is once again becoming a fertile ground for terrorist resurgence, with militant groups reconstituting their ranks and potentially preparing for large-scale operations akin to the September 11, 2001 attacks.
Further elaborating on the administration’s counterterrorism achievements, Waltz noted that 45 American citizens, previously detained in prisons across various regimes and conflict zones, have been repatriated through diplomatic and security efforts. Among the most recent cases, two American nationals held in Taliban custody were successfully freed and returned to the United States. These developments emerge amid growing alarm within the intelligence community over the expanding footprint of terrorist organizations operating from lawless or poorly governed regions. Afghanistan, in particular, is viewed as a critical staging ground from which these groups are attempting to project power and export violence across borders.
Waltz’s remarks reflect broader concerns that, in the absence of sustained international engagement, Afghanistan could once again become a hub for extremism, posing renewed threats not only to the region but also to global security.
