RASC News Agency: In alignment with its humanitarian obligations, the United Kingdom has announced the resettlement of approximately 300 Afghanistani refugees in Bracknell Forest this spring. These individuals, who fled Taliban rule, will be welcomed under the UK’s national Afghan resettlement scheme, initiated by the Ministry of Defence in late 2024. Bracknell Forest Council confirmed that the cohort will include those who served alongside British forces in Afghanistan and are now under direct threat from the Taliban. Among them are interpreters, local staff, and individuals who contributed to British-led operations and diplomatic efforts.
The council further clarified that these refugees will be granted Indefinite Leave to Remain, ensuring their legal status as permanent residents rather than asylum seekers or undocumented migrants. This measure underscores the UK’s commitment to safeguarding those who risked their lives in support of British missions abroad. Simultaneously, Cherwell District Council announced on March 30 the allocation of £1.4 million for the construction of eight housing units to accommodate Afghanistani refugees and homeless individuals across the district. The project will be financed through the UK Government’s Housing Support Fund.
These initiatives are part of a broader strategic response to the displacement of Afghanistani nationals who were forced to flee their country amid escalating threats. Following a series of targeted evacuation flights from Pakistan to London, the UK is preparing to support an additional 2,200 Afghanistani refugees in their pursuit of safety and stability.
