Amnesty International: Pakistan Must Immediately Halt the Forced Deportation of Afghanistani Migrants

RASC News Agency: Amnesty International has called on the Pakistani government to immediately suspend its arbitrary and ill-defined plan to forcibly deport Afghanistani migrants, warning that such actions put the lives of these individuals in grave danger. In a statement issued on Wednesday, March 26, Amnesty emphasized that the forced expulsion of Afghanistani migrants is not only damaging but also exposes them to life-threatening situations. The organization stated that Pakistan has failed to provide any credible justification for the expulsion of Afghanistani migrants.

Amnesty expressed concern that the Pakistani government is conducting these deportations without regard for the migrants’ safety, future, or dignity, completely disregarding basic humanitarian principles. This action, according to the statement, demonstrates Pakistan’s neglect of its neighborly responsibilities and its disregard for human rights. The organization also noted that the deportation initiative, branded under the “Return of Illegal Foreigners” campaign, has disproportionately targeted Afghanistani migrants. As of March 31, thousands of refugees and migrants will face severe risks due to this policy, potentially threatening their survival.

Amnesty accused the Pakistani government of engaging in xenophobic practices, pointing out that Afghanistani migrants have been wrongly labeled as terrorists and drug traffickers. This alarming development follows an escalation in the deportation efforts by Pakistan, which has given Afghanistani migrants a deadline to leave the country by the start of next month. Previously, migrant advocacy organizations and international bodies have expressed serious concern over the forced expulsion of Afghanistani migrants from both Pakistan and Iran.
