RASC News Agency: On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, the Afghanistan Center for Legal Studies and Research has urged the global community to take decisive action to end violence against women, emphasizing that true peace is unattainable while such injustices persist. The center highlighted the harrowing plight of Afghanistani women under Taliban rule, where they face systematic oppression and degradation. The center criticized the hypocrisy of certain nations that adopt harsh measures against perpetrators of violence against women domestically while maintaining covert or overt relations with the Taliban.
In its statement, the center emphasized that mere expressions of concern or public declarations are insufficient to alleviate the suffering of Afghanistani women. “Concrete and actionable measures are essential to address this crisis. The systematic exclusion of women from public, civic, and governmental life, coupled with the denial of their fundamental human and citizenship rights, is not an issue that can be resolved through rhetoric alone. Serious and practical interventions are imperative,” the statement asserted. The center expressed deep alarm over the abandonment of Afghanistani women, who, under the Taliban’s rule, are stripped of their autonomy, subjected to domestic violence, and forced into marriages against their will.
Previously, numerous international organizations and Afghanistani women’s advocacy groups had condemned the Taliban’s escalating violence against women, issuing statements of concern and urgency. This year’s observance also commemorates the Mirabal sisters of the Dominican Republic, who were brutally murdered in 1960 on the orders of dictator Rafael Trujillo. In 1999, the United Nations officially designated November 25 as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women in memory of their sacrifice. This designation obligated nations to take tangible actions against perpetrators of violence and to uphold the rights and dignity of women globally.
