RASC News Agency: Sources within the Taliban confirm that the regime is experiencing a severe financial crisis, leaving it unable to pay salaries to its government employees and fighters. Despite public claims of financial stability, the group lacks the necessary budget to sustain payroll obligations. During a recent virtual meeting with its subordinate departments, the Taliban’s Ministry of Finance admitted that its financial reserves have been depleted. A high-ranking source within the ministry told RASC News Agency that salary disbursements have been halted indefinitely. The source further stated that unless the Taliban secure international financial assistance, the regime will be incapable of paying its employees.
Two days ago, leaked documents from the Taliban’s Ministry of Finance revealed that salary payments were scheduled for March 11. However, insiders have confirmed that the plan has been canceled. Taliban-affiliated employees have also confirmed they have not received their wages, expressing uncertainty over when or if payments will resume. Previously, Afghanistan received substantial financial aid from foreign nations, much of which fell under Taliban control. Additionally, the U.S. had been providing weekly humanitarian assistance, including $45 million in general aid and $48 million in direct funding for the Taliban’s Ministry of Interior. These payments have now been completely suspended.
With foreign aid cut off, the Taliban are facing an unprecedented budget shortfall, leaving them unable to meet payroll obligations. The U.S. had continued certain financial allocations previously provided to the former Afghanistan government, but in recent weeks, these payments have been entirely discontinued. Following the collapse of international financial support, several Taliban officials have privately acknowledged that the resulting crisis has crippled the regime’s economy.
