RASC News Agency: The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has reported that anti-Taliban factions, including the National Resistance Front (NRF) and the Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF), have carried out 91 attacks on Taliban positions over the past three months. According to UNAMA, these resistance groups have maintained operational success, with their offensives continuing into recent days. The UN published its quarterly report on Thursday, March 6, which was presented by Secretary-General António Guterres to the UN Security Council.
The report states that the NRF was responsible for 53 attacks, while the AFF conducted 21 operations against Taliban targets. Additionally, 16 other attacks remain unverified. UNAMA also documented six ISIS-led attacks, primarily targeting religious sites, Taliban officials, and government institutions. The report highlights a surge in ISIS operations against religious centers, including a deadly assault on November 21, 2024, at a Sufi shrine in Nahrin, Baghlan, which left at least 11 worshippers dead. ISIS later claimed responsibility for the attack.
The findings further confirm that ISIS orchestrated the assassination of Khalil-ur-Rahman Haqqani, the former Taliban Minister for Refugees and Repatriation. The group also claimed responsibility for the targeted killing of a religious scholar in Central Baghlan and the assassination of a Chinese national in Takhar Province. Last week, the NRF announced an escalation in its military campaign against the Taliban. As the most active resistance force in Afghanistan, the NRF has sustained its armed operations over the past three months, demonstrating a continued challenge to Taliban rule.
