RASC News Agency: Nasir Ahmad Andisha, Afghanistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, has denounced the Taliban’s governance, accusing the group of committing un-Islamic and inhumane acts while strategically using religion to deflect international criticism. Speaking at a session of the UN Human Rights Council, Andisha underscored the dire human rights situation in Afghanistan, emphasizing that the Taliban habitually deny responsibility for their actions, either dismissing concerns as “un-Islamic” or branding them as internal matters beyond external interference.
“The Taliban are not honest with the people,” Andisha declared. “They fabricate justifications for their oppressive actions, often insisting that their governance is an internal issue. But the reality is that under their rule, the Afghanistani people have lost all sense of peace and security.” Addressing the international community from the UN headquarters in Geneva, he stated that Afghanistan, under Taliban control, has transformed into a nation where fundamental rights are being systematically erased and international laws are openly disregarded.
Andisha further warned that a culture of impunity now dominates Taliban governance, allowing widespread human rights violations to persist unchecked. He particularly highlighted the Taliban’s draconian restrictions on women and girls, warning that these policies have intensified child marriage, forced labor, human trafficking, and severe exploitation. Additionally, Andisha expressed grave concern over the ongoing persecution of former government officials and security personnel, who remain at constant risk of retribution, imprisonment, and extrajudicial execution.
Citing reports by Richard Bennett, the UN Special Rapporteur on Afghanistan, Andisha emphasized that many of the Taliban’s human rights violations remain undocumented, further obscuring the full extent of their abuses. “The Afghanistani people are enduring immense suffering under Taliban rule,” he concluded. “They are grappling with relentless oppression, and peace remains an illusion under this regime.”
