RASC News Agency: Reports from Panjshir indicate that Taliban forces have been exhuming graves and demolishing historical sites in a relentless search for weapons. This latest act of desecration has sparked outrage among the local population, who describe it as barbaric and inhumane. The Taliban’s ongoing persecution of Panjshir’s residents has only deepened public resentment toward the group. According to sources, on Thursday, February 27, Taliban fighters in the Dara district unearthed dozens of graves, hoping to discover hidden caches of arms.
While some newly dug graves have been disturbed, the primary focus has been on older burial sites, which the Taliban have systematically desecrated in their desperate hunt. Eyewitnesses report that Taliban forces have removed multiple corpses from their final resting places, provoking widespread anger among residents, who view the act as an unspeakable violation of human dignity. This is not the first instance of such actions. The Taliban have previously committed similar offenses, drawing condemnation from communities across Afghanistan.
Over the past three years of their rule, the Taliban have consistently oppressed Panjshir’s residents under various pretexts subjecting them to humiliation, arbitrary detention, and even desecration of the deceased. Additionally, Taliban forces have carried out mass arrests, imprisoning and torturing Panjshir residents under accusations of collaborating with the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan and other anti-Taliban factions. In a related incident, Taliban fighters in Bagram, Parwan province, recently arrested a young man on suspicion of possessing weapons only to execute him in a hail of gunfire shortly after his detention.
