RASC News Agency: Local sources from Ghor province report that the Taliban have shut down an educational center and detained its staff members, including one woman, on Saturday, January 25. According to witnesses, the Taliban subjected the teachers to verbal abuse and humiliation during the raid. Aminullah (a pseudonym), a resident of Lal wa Sarjangal district, stated that the “Ufaq Educational Center” was forcibly closed by the Taliban under the pretext of educating girls beyond the sixth grade. The group arrested four teachers, including the center’s director.
“The Taliban stormed the Ufoq Educational Center, physically assaulted students, and began detaining the teachers,” Aminullah said. The center had been providing English language instruction to both male and female students in Lal wa Sarjangal district. As of now, the Taliban have not issued any statement regarding the incident. This is part of a broader trend, as the Taliban have systematically shut down English language centers in several provinces, including Herat, Badakhshan, Mazar-e-Sharif, and Ghor. Their hostility towards female education has escalated, often resulting in the detention and mistreatment of educators and students.
Since their takeover of Afghanistan, the Taliban have banned schooling for girls and, more recently, begun targeting private educational institutions. These actions have sparked widespread condemnation from international educational organizations and the Afghanistani public, who view these measures as further evidence of the Taliban’s oppressive regime and systematic denial of fundamental rights.
