RASC News Agency: Jamiat-e-Islami Afghanistan, under the leadership of Salahuddin Rabbani, has released a statement lauding the International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor’s recommendation for issuing arrest warrants against Hibatullah Akhundzada, the Taliban’s supreme leader, and Abdul Hakim Haqqani, the Chief Justice of the group. The statement also underscored the necessity of expanding investigations to address the Taliban’s extensive record of atrocities. The party stated: “For more than three years, the people of Afghanistan have faced a void in political legitimacy, as a violent, regressive group continues to usurp the fundamental rights of its citizens.”
While acknowledging that the ICC’s action is a step in the right direction, Jamiat-e-Islami emphasized its insufficiency, calling for broader accountability for the Taliban’s systematic crimes, particularly those targeting Afghanistani women and girls. Jamiat-e-Islami drew attention to the severe plight of Afghanistani women, asserting that under Taliban rule, they have been completely marginalized from public life, paying an exorbitant price for the group’s oppressive policies. The statement urged both domestic and international actors to collaborate in alleviating the suffering of the Afghanistani people, restoring democracy, and establishing a governance system rooted in the collective will of the nation.
The party concluded by affirming that the resolution to Afghanistan’s current crisis lies solely in the formation of a legitimate, law-abiding government. It condemned the Taliban’s three years of rule, marked by pervasive political, religious, ethnic, and gender-based repression, with Afghanistani women and girls bearing the brunt of this tyranny.
