RASC News Agency: Local sources in Kunduz province have reported the arrest of a former soldier from the National Directorate of Security (NDS) under the previous Afghan government by the Taliban. According to these sources, the Taliban apprehended the ex-soldier, identified as Wahidullah, on Saturday, January 18, at his residence in Kunduz’s Fourth District and subsequently transferred him to Kabul. Wahidullah is originally from Panjshir province. Sources further disclosed that Wahidullah’s six-year-old daughter fainted upon witnessing her father’s arrest and had to be rushed to the hospital. Wahidullah was previously stationed as an NDS soldier in Takhar province.
The Taliban have not yet issued a statement regarding this arrest. In recent weeks, the Taliban have escalated their campaign against former military personnel, focusing particularly on residents of Panjshir. Reports indicate that in the past three weeks alone, dozens of former soldiers, the majority of whom are Panjshiri, have been detained and imprisoned by the Taliban. Notably, the Taliban have arrested and imprisoned over 20,000 Tajik youth, primarily from Panjshir and Andarab regions. Over the past three years, thousands of Tajik youth have been executed by the Taliban on allegations of collaborating with the Resistance Front and the Freedom Front.
These actions reflect the Taliban’s deep-seated hostility towards the Tajik community, particularly Panjshiris. Rather than addressing individuals like Hamid Karzai, Abdullah Abdullah, and other prominent figures accused of collaborating with foreign intelligence agencies and betraying the nation, the Taliban have disproportionately targeted ordinary soldiers. These individuals were once misled by leaders who publicly posed as allies of the people by day while covertly aligning with the Taliban by night.
