RASC News Agency: The Chairman of the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee has announced that on Aug 29th, he will meet with representatives of the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan, including Ahmad Massoud. Michael McCaul expressed that he is “eager” to hear about Ahmad Massoud’s efforts to liberate his people from the Taliban’s grip.
On Friday, McCaul wrote on X that he and his team have maintained continuous communication with Mr. Massoud and the National Resistance Front for years. The Chairman emphasized that “the Taliban’s terrorist regime has undone any progress made in human rights in Afghanistan.” McCaul reiterated his support for the Afghanistani people and his opposition to the Taliban’s rule.
McCaul described the mission of the National Resistance Front as an “honorable” endeavor. He also confirmed that the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee would release its report on the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan on September 9th, with Ahmad Massoud in attendance during the report’s presentation.
Michael McCaul also commended Sean Ryan, a journalist and former U.S. Navy member, for his initiatives, including a petition that garnered widespread attention for Ahmad Massoud and the National Resistance Front’s struggle. Recently, Sean Ryan launched a campaign to cut financial aid to the Taliban and to invite Ahmad Massoud to testify before Congress. Tens of thousands of people have signed this petition.
The National Resistance Front’s foreign relations chief welcomed McCaul’s remarks. Ali Maisam Nazary stated that the Front eagerly anticipates the meeting with the Chairman of the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee and his team. Michael McCaul has been a staunch critic of the Taliban, consistently denouncing their actions over the past three years. He has also been a vocal critic of the chaotic U.S. military withdrawal from Afghanistan under the Biden administration. The House Foreign Affairs Committee has already summoned several U.S. officials involved in the Afghanistan withdrawal process.
