RASC News Agency: Local sources in Daykundi province have confirmed to the media that the Taliban have detained five officials from the New Horizon Human Development Institute. According to reports, these individuals were apprehended by the Taliban’s intelligence forces. The detainees include Mohsen Saadat, the provincial director; Sayed Habib Roshan, the district head of Khadir; Jawad Hamta, the district head of Ashterlai; Asadullah Halimi, the district head of Sangtakht and Bandar; and Lal Mohammad Mohammadi, the coordinator in Nili.
Sources indicate that Mohsen Saadat and Lal Mohammad Mohammadi were detained on Tuesday, while the other three were arrested a day earlier. Additionally, sources report that the institute’s central office in Nili city was raided by Taliban forces, who confiscated several computers during the operation. The New Horizon Human Development Institute currently operates nine educational centers across seven districts of Daykundi, focusing on English language and computer training, and continues to provide essential educational services in the region.
As of now, the reasons for these arrests remain unknown, sparking widespread concern over the detainees’ fate. The Taliban, in their typical fashion, have issued no statement regarding the detentions. Since assuming control following the withdrawal of U.S. forces and the collapse of Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai’s administration, the Taliban have intensified their campaign against education in Afghanistan. They began by shutting down all schools above grade six for girls, subsequently closed universities, and have recently extended their crackdown to medical institutes and other educational centers, effectively stifling the country’s academic progress.
