RASC News Agency: Taj Mohammad Chahabi, a celebrated Afghanistani folk singer, has reportedly been injured in an attack by unidentified assailants in Shiraz, Iran. Local sources confirm that the incident occurred on Saturday, January 11, in the Saadi district of Shiraz, where Chahabi was performing at a wedding ceremony. Witnesses state that Chahabi sustained severe injuries to his head and legs during the attack and is currently receiving treatment in a local hospital. Preliminary reports suggest that the assault was carried out by a group of Afghanistani migrants, though their exact identities remain unknown.

Nawroz Hamraz, Chahabi’s son, shared details of the attack on his Facebook page, revealing that his father was assaulted by “six thugs” armed with knives and machetes. The attackers reportedly inflicted grave injuries to Chahabi’s head, leaving him in critical condition. Iranian authorities have yet to issue a statement regarding the incident, leaving many questions unanswered. Taj Mohammad Chahabi fled to Iran following the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan, seeking refuge from the group’s oppressive policies. In recent interviews, Chahabi highlighted the economic hardships and struggles of living as a migrant in Iran.

The Taliban’s resurgence has brought widespread repression, including a blanket ban on music across Afghanistan. Reports indicate that the group has destroyed musical instruments in numerous provinces, forcing countless artists to abandon their craft and flee the country. Chahabi’s plight reflects the broader challenges faced by Afghanistani artists in exile, as they navigate an uncertain future away from their homeland.
