U.S. Lawmakers Advocate Ending Financial Aid to the Taliban

RASC News Agency: Anna Paulina Luna, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, has vehemently criticized the United States’ ongoing $40 million weekly aid to the Taliban. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), she declared, “Terrorists should not receive even a single cent of American taxpayers’ money.” Luna further stated, “We are sending $40 million each week to the Taliban the same group that poses a direct threat to our sovereignty and security.” Luna expressed her support for Congressman Tim Burchett’s legislative initiative aimed at halting financial aid to the Taliban. She explained that Burchett’s proposed bill seeks to terminate all monetary transfers to the Taliban. Last week, Congressman Burchett announced the introduction of a bill in the House of Representatives to prohibit the allocation of U.S. taxpayers’ money to the Taliban.

Speaking about the proposed legislation, Luna reiterated that it would bring an end to the financial assistance being sent to the Taliban. Representing Florida, Luna has emerged as a staunch opponent of U.S. financial engagement with Afghanistan under Taliban rule. The issue of aid to the Taliban has become a central point of contention among Republican lawmakers, with growing criticism from influential political figures. Recently, Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur and key advisor to former President Donald Trump, also expressed his disapproval of these aid payments. During a press conference on Tuesday, President-elect Trump asserted, “The United States is sending billions of dollars to the Taliban.” He condemned the practice, describing it as “unacceptable” and insisting that such aid “must be stopped immediately.”

Critics of the Taliban have welcomed these remarks from the incoming U.S. administration, arguing that the group exploits American taxpayers’ money to sustain terrorism in Afghanistan. However, Taliban officials have denied receiving any financial assistance from the United States.
