They added that the death toll could be higher, as some deceased have not been taken to the hospital and some injured have been treated at local health centers. Meanwhile, local Taliban officials in Nangarhar have reported the casualties from the storm and rainfall at 45 dead and over 300 injured.

This past Monday, Jalalabad city and the districts of Nangarhar experienced severe storms and rainfall, resulting in significant damage in addition to the loss of life. Qureshi Badlon, the Director of Information at the Directorate of Information and Culture of the Taliban in Nangarhar province, stated that this natural disaster inflicted the most damage on Jalalabad city and Surkhrod district.

According to this Taliban official, the majority of the victims were residents of Surkhrod district, who lost their lives due to house collapses. This local Taliban official further noted that the recent storm and rainfall have destroyed over 400 residential homes, 60 electricity poles, and 800 tents belonging to returnees from Pakistan.

Simultaneously, affected families have complained about the urgent need for food, clean drinking water, and shelter, which they have not yet received. It is worth mentioning that the International Organization for Migration stated that their teams are deployed in Nangarhar to assess the needs of the affected and provide emergency aid to the impacted people.
