Five Months Since Petition Campaign to Invite Ahmad Massoud to the U.S., Progress Remains Elusive

RASC News Agency: Sean Ryan, a former U.S. Marine and prominent media activist, initiated a petition campaign five months ago to invite Ahmad Massoud, leader of Afghanistan’s National Resistance Front (NRF), to the United States. Despite extensive advocacy efforts, the campaign has yet to meet its signature goal. Ryan has been a steadfast supporter of Massoud, aiming to position him as a key figure in the global fight against the Taliban. However, his efforts over the past five months have fallen short, with the petition attracting fewer than 400,000 signatures far below expectations given the campaign’s duration and promotional outreach.

Ryan had previously stated that the petition’s purpose was to compel the U.S. government to issue a visa for Massoud, allowing him to present his vision for Afghanistan’s future before Congress. The petition, launched on July 5, sought to emphasize Massoud’s role in opposing the Taliban and advocating for Afghanistan freedoms. In a renewed push for support, Ryan recently shared the petition link again on X, urging the public to help achieve the campaign’s goals. It is noteworthy that the U.S. government has previously denied a visa to Massoud.

Ahmad Massoud, leader of the NRF and one of the Taliban’s most prominent adversaries, has spearheaded resistance efforts in Afghanistan. Over the past three years, the NRF has carried out numerous operations against the Taliban, resulting in significant losses for the group. Despite these efforts, Massoud’s international recognition and ability to influence global policy remain constrained by limited access to platforms like the U.S. Congress.
