Afghanistan Red Crescent Hands Over 288 Newly Built Homes to Herat Earthquake Survivors

RASC News Agency: The Afghanistan Red Crescent Society (ARCS) has officially handed over 288 newly constructed homes to earthquake survivors in the Ghorian and Zindajan districts of Herat province. In a statement, ARCS revealed that the project was implemented in collaboration with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) as part of broader efforts to aid the reconstruction of earthquake-affected areas in Herat.

The ARCS underscored its commitment to providing continued support to the victims of the disaster. Beyond the construction of homes, the organization has also delivered essential relief packages to over 2,100 families, including tents, blankets, water containers, kitchen utensils, and floor mats. According to ARCS estimates, these relief efforts have so far benefited more than 87,000 individuals. The aid was made possible through funds mobilized via emergency appeals to address the impacts of natural disasters, such as earthquakes, floods, droughts, and ongoing health crises across Afghanistan.

Previously, several international organizations and charitable foundations had announced their contributions to rebuilding homes and shelters for Herat’s earthquake survivors. These organizations also provided critical supplies, including bedding, blankets, and warm clothing. Local Afghanistani charitable foundations have similarly played a pivotal role in extending support to the affected families. The devastating earthquakes that struck Herat earlier this year caused significant destruction, claiming numerous lives, destroying homes, and resulting in widespread livestock losses.
