RASC News Agency: Local sources in Ghor have reported that the Taliban has arrested and beaten six individuals on various charges in the province. According to these sources, the Taliban initially subjected the individuals to separate beatings before taking them into custody and transporting them to an undisclosed location. The Taliban’s Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice has confirmed that the six individuals were detained in Firoz Koh, the provincial capital of Ghor, on charges of drinking alcohol and selling alcoholic beverages, as well as trafficking in “narcotic tablets.”
On Thursday, December 13, the Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice issued a statement on X (formerly Twitter), confirming that four of the individuals were arrested for consuming alcohol, while the remaining two were detained for the sale of 1,200 bottles of alcohol and 124 narcotic tablets. The Ministry further stated that these actions were considered violations of the law and that the individuals were to be punished accordingly. In the statement, the Ministry emphasized that the individuals had been “handed over to the law,” though no further details regarding their fate were provided.
This incident follows a pattern of arrests by the Taliban’s Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, which has previously detained individuals across the country for similar offenses, including the consumption and sale of alcohol. The Taliban has also arrested citizens for failing to comply with the restrictions imposed by their regime. There are claims that the Taliban frequently makes arbitrary arrests based on unfounded accusations and fabricated charges. It has also been reported that some individuals have been detained and imprisoned following forced confessions.
Earlier reports have alleged that the Taliban has engaged in arbitrary detentions and inflicted torture on individuals without due legal process.
