RASC News Agency: Several months after reducing the salaries of female employees forced to stay home, the Taliban have now, in a letter sent this week, cut the salaries of female teachers above the sixth grade to five thousand kabuli rupees. The Taliban issued a letter this week outlining the salary adjustments for female teachers.
Informed sources state that female teachers above the sixth grade in public schools have been informed that starting from the Islamic month of Asad, which began today Monday, they will receive a monthly salary of five thousand kabuli rupees. The letter specifies that this amount is fixed and non-negotiable for female teachers.
This directive was sent to public schools by the Taliban’s Department of Education. For nearly three years, the Taliban have barred girls above the sixth grade from attending school. United Nations statistics indicate that this decision has deprived over 1.1 million girls of continuing their education. Previously, the Taliban had ordered that female employees’ salaries be set at five thousand kabuli rupees, sparking protests and demonstrations from women. Following this directive, female healthcare workers and doctors went on strike, leading the Taliban’s Ministry of Public Health to summon them.
The striking women reported being threatened by the Ministry of Public Health to cease their strikes and refrain from opposing the Taliban. In a letter issued by the Taliban’s Ministry of Finance in June, it was stated that all benefits and salaries of female employees not present at work would be set at five thousand kabuli rupees starting from June 14. However, those female employees who were permitted to continue working would receive their regular salaries.
Previously, the salaries of female employees and teachers were approximately ten thousand kabuli rupees. Some female teachers and employees have expressed that the salary reduction will further exacerbate their hardships.
