Afghanistan’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations Denounces Taliban Policies as Inhumane and Un-Islamic

RASC News Agency: Afghanistan’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations has condemned the policies of the Taliban, describing them as detrimental to the interests of the Afghan people and in direct contradiction to the nation’s values. In a statement, the mission referred to the Taliban’s policies as both un-Islamic and inhumane. The statement emphasized that the denial of education and employment to women and girls is not only a blatant violation of Islamic and human rights but also represents a direct assault on the Afghanistani people and their nation’s future.

The mission, currently staffed by diplomats from the former Afghanistan government, issued this statement on the occasion of International Human Rights Day. It underscored that under Taliban rule, women and girls in Afghanistan have been stripped of their most basic rights. Furthermore, the mission expressed concern that the Taliban’s actions are steering Afghanistan toward destruction and stagnation. It posed the rhetorical question, “How can a sustainable and progressive society be built when half of its population is excluded from active participation?”

The Afghanistan Mission to the United Nations called upon the international community to unequivocally condemn the Taliban’s actions and to reaffirm its commitment to supporting the people of Afghanistan, particularly women and girls. Additionally, the statement underscored the urgent need for a coordinated and unified approach to reinstate a legitimate, accountable, and just national system that reflects the will of the people. The mission also appealed to the Afghanistani populace to unite in their efforts for a more just and liberated future.

Meanwhile, a Taliban spokesperson has claimed that, from the Taliban’s perspective, the rights of the Afghanistani people are being protected under their rule. Previously, the United Nations urged the Taliban to adhere to Afghanistan’s human rights obligations, stressing that respect for human rights remains a fundamental criterion for any international engagement with the group. However, Taliban officials continue to dismiss human rights and women’s rights as a “Western concept.”
